Hello everyone. I thought I should forward this here, as it may be something that my fellow British members reading this list may like to do, as well be of interest to everyone else too. btw, whilst I also agree with this - and indeed have signed the petition - I also feel that we humans need to stop looking primarily at this planet as a series of often warlike nation states and instead start identifying more with having come from the same planet, as part of a process of coming together & creating a brotherhood(sisterhood) of humankind. There is nothing wrong in having an affinity with where a person lives, was born, etc, but this should not become an excuse for seeing ourselves as being different from each other and even going to war because of it. European integration should have been a stepping stone towards this, but alas the actions of our present day institutions (such as the EU) do not inspire in people the necessary confidence that they have wise leaders who really do have our best interests at heart - and therefore it is 'safe' to allow for what will be fundamental changes to our / their ideas of global governance. In many ways this Lisbon treaty and its machinations has been the best possible thing. I say this because it has exposed a LOT of dark behaviour by the many politicians, and not just to those who always knew that there was something rotten going on behind the scenes - but to the wider population too. What happens next, however, I can only guess. In the meantime, to reflect this I'm about to change the signature text which comes at the the end of my messages. But politicians across Europe are refusing to accept the result. They arrogantly insist that the Treaty must go ahead anyway. Despite the no vote, the UK Government is planning to carry on regardless, and ratify the Treaty in the House of Lords on Wednesday. This is part of an attempt to isolate and bully the people of Ireland. Please take 30 seconds to send a message to Gordon Brown by signing the petition on the Downing Street website. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier says: "We are sticking with our goal for it to come into force. The ratification process must continue." Spanish Europe Minister Lopez Garrido says: "The treaty will be applied, albeit a few months late." European Commission President Jose Barroso says: "The Treaty is not dead. The Treaty is alive, and we will try to work to find a solution." British Foreign Minister David Miliband says: "18 countries have now passed the reform treaty...each country must see the ratification process to a conclusion... there needs to be a British view as well as an Irish view." Don't let the politicians get away with it.
